RIP Vinod Khanna: A look at his journey from Peshawar to Mumbai

Veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna, who was hospitalised after complaining of "severe dehydration" in HN Reliance Foundation and Research Centre in Girgaum, breathed his last on Thursday.

One of the well known face of Bollywood, Vinod Khanna was born in October 6, 1946 in Peshawar, North-West Frontier Province, British India (now in Pakistan) has appeared in 141 films between 1968 and 2013. He was also an active sitting MP from Gurdaspur. Shortly after his birth, India was partitioned and his family, including his three sisters and a brother, left Peshawar and reached Mumbai.

Vinod Khanna is known for his superhit films and is best remembered for his performance in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Gaddaar (1973 film), Jail Yatra, Imitihaan, Inkaar, Kuchhe Dhaage, Amar Akbar Anthony, Rajput, Qurbani, Kudrat, Dayavan, Kaarnama,Suryaa: An Awakening and Jurm.

His negalive roles in superhit movie Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Achanak as the military officer received tremendous applause from both- the film industry and his fans.

The angry young man In 1982 temporarily quit the film industry to follow his spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh. After a 5 year of break he returned by giving two back to back hit films Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate.

It was in 1974-1982 Vinod Khanna was paid more than Jeetendra in the film Insaan and more than Amitabh Bachchan in 4 films like Parvarish,Hera Pheri, Khoon Pasina, Amar Akbar Anthony. It was in 2002 that he became union minister for culture and tourism and in 2014 general election he was again elected for 16th Loksabaha from Gurdaspur constituency .
