Bollywood’s power couple Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are on the couch discussing modern marriages. Yes you get that right, Kareena Kapoor’s latest Valentine’s Day special episode of What women Want has her husband ‘Saifu’ as the special guest and while discussing what worked for them the actress complains the Cocktail actor is ‘completely disorganised and has no form of time management.’
When asked which celeb couple he thinks is ‘acing marriage’ , Saif has Virushka as his answer as he feels they have the right balance like his parents, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore had. In other segments Saif revealed he finds disrespect and unfaithfulness as relationship destroyer and ‘role play’ to keep the spark alive in marriage leaving Kareena blushing all the while.
Saif then goes on to say that “different interests” play a major role in keeping the spark alive: “If you have slightly different things to do, if there is a little bit of freshness when you meet at the end of the day or after a couple of days, if you have some new ideas to swap… I think repetition and a mundane kind of existence is a bit worrying for everybody because any long-term relationship can get a bit repetitive.”
The episode that opens with Kareena declaring the subject of women being asked to ‘adjust’ in a marriage that and how she completely disagrees of ‘adjustment’ that turns into ‘sacrifice’, Kareena quizzes Saif on if there are any role-defined in their marriage. To this Saif takes the example of holidays where Kareena says she does all the ‘dirty work’ that includes all the ticketing and administration and Saif is just chilling.
Recalling the times when Saif started dating Kareena , the actor revealed how Rani Mukherjee advised him to think he was in a relationship with a man. “I know what she went… don’t get into the gender of it...treat it like equals like you go two heroes in the house…” to which Kareena respond as “That is really cool thing to say.” Saif goes on to appreciate Kareena for her time management skill to which she proudly takes credit and exclaims, “It’s all me, all my management skill.”
Taking about Saifeena fans idolising them as happy couple, Saif shares, ‘life of a celebrity in a relationship can be quite tough also… When we started going out also.. You don’t Know.. You are working with attractive people and you are travelling the world and going to places. .. so to maintain a healthy relationship in such circumstances is little hard ad anyone who manages to do that with grace is worthy of respect.”
For Saif, a successful marriage is all about maintaining the balance between personal and professional life. “People have compared marriage to a base camp and if you want to climb mountains, you need a good base camp before you climb. But if you spend all your time climbing mountains, there will be no base camp left,” he said.
