Bollywood actress Disha Patani has been roped in to play the lead in the much talked about Tamil fantasy drama Sangamithra. The announcement was made by producers Hema Rukmani of Thenandal Studios Limited, who are elated to have Disha in the movie
"We are delighted to have Disha Patani play the titular role. 'Sangamithra' is our dream project. It's a larger-than- life period film with great technicians. Currently, the pre- production work on the film is going on in full swing. We expect to go on the floors from December," Hema Rukmani was quoted as saying.
In fact, Disha too took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news with her fans and wrote, "Really very excited for #Sangamitra. Can't wait to start shooting for this wonderful film".

Interestingly, Shruti Haasan was suppose to play the lead int the movie but she opted out of the project soon after the Cannes Film Festival announcement.
Set in the 8th century AD, Sangamitra is a tale of the trials and tribulations of Sangamithra and her journey to save her kingdom.
Also starring Tamil actors Arya and Jayam Ravi in pivotal roles, 'Sangamithra' will be directed by filmmaker Sundar C.
A R Rahman will compose the music for the project, which was launched at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
