The shooting of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhasali's magum opus "Padmavati" has started.

The period drama stars Deepika Padukone in the lead role of Rajput queen Padmavati and features Shahid Kapoor as Raja Ratan Singh.

Bhansali's favourite Ranveer Singh is essaying the role of Alauddin Khilji, the medieval-era Delhi sultan, who falls in love with Padmavati.

Sudeep Chatterjee is the director of photography for the movie.

While Ranveer and Deepika have worked with Bhansali before in "Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela" and "Bajirao Mastani," it is the first time that Shahid will be directed by the filmmaker.
