New Delhi:

After serving 42-month-long term, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday walked free from Pune's Yerwada Central Jail. He was sentenced for five years after being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case.

He is likely to visit Siddhivinayak Temple after reaching Mumbai in a chartered plane.

Sanjay Dutt’s friends also registered their happiness over the release.

“I know Sanju (Dutt) on a personal level, and I’m delighted that he will finally return home in one-two days to his family and friends... We’ve been waiting eagerly for the day, and we have always been praying for his safety,” Manoj said at a promotional event for “Aligarh” here last evening.  Rajkummar Rao says he is happy with Dutt’s release as he has “respectfully” completed his jail term.

“It’s great news, very happy that he’s returning. I’m a big fan of him, having grown up watching his films. He has respectfully completed his term; the mental pressure is also over now. He’ll be an amazing guy, he’ll be back all over again,” Rajkummar said.

Dutt’s release on February 25 will be 103 days ahead of the end of his full prison term. Before the Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 2013, he had spent 18 months in jail during the investigation and trial phase.
