Singer Shaan had to stop his concert mid-way after a section of the audience pelted stones and paper balls at him when he started singing a Bengali song at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on 28 October.
A video from the concert has been doing rounds on social media and it shows people shouting, “This is Assam and not Bengal.”The singer can be heard requesting the crowd to not make it political in the video.

Several people have alleged that there was a paper along with the stone, demanding the singer to sing Assamese song and not Hindi/ Bollywood songs. pic.twitter.com/tJFRi51iuV
Tanha Dil singer also walked off the stage but soon returned at the request of the organisers, a person backstage told the publication. Shaan asked the security men to get the person concerned on stage."
Get him on stage. Whoever you are, never throw things at an artist. Learn to respect a performer," the singer was heard saying over the microphone.
Given the politically charged atmosphere in Assam in the backdrop of NRC (National Register of Citizens), the incident has triggered outrage on social media with many alleging that the singer was heckled for singing in Bengali.
The singer has now denied the report, claiming that only one member of the audience misbehaved during his performance. He also tweeted regarding the incident.
Complete lies!!! One Paper ticket folded up was thrown on stage by One Person after vigorously gestering and shouting to stop singing.. That’s all ... please stop these wild speculations and lies 🙏 https://t.co/F6QdEuT761— Shaan (@singer_shaan) October 30, 2018
Later, Shaan wrote that he will not let one incident tarnish the image of the state.“Just for the records ...loved my Assam Tour!! Saw the most fascinating sights...made new friends..had huge turnouts at every concert. Over one unfortunate incident, it would be very wrong to Tarnish this Beautifull State!!! Whatever happened was in the heat of the moment,” he wrote.
