Actress Shruti Haasan who was all set to be featured Sundar C's magnum opus 'Sangamithra' has backed out of the multi-lingual project.

Set in the 8th century AD, the movie, is a tale of the trials and tribulations of Sangamithra and her journey to save her kingdom.

The actress along with filmmaker Sundar C, had recently created a buzz after they launched the first poster of the film at ongoing Cannes Festival 2017.

The movie moreover promised to outstrip the SS Rajmouli's recent blockbuster 'Baahubali 2' in terms of scale and grandeur.

"Shruti has, unfortunately, had to take a call not to be part of 'Sangamithra'. Knowing it was a massive undertaking and a long commitment spanning over two years, she knew the importance of her training, a comprehensive script and proper date calendar," a statement from Shruti's spokesperson read.

The actress had already started combat training for her role of a warrior princess in the movie.

"Despite her enthusiasm and commitment to 'Sangamithra', she has had to give the film a miss since she had not received a proper bound script nor a proper date calendar," the spokesperson further added.

In a recent interaction with reporters, the actress had said her role in 'Sangamithra' was going to be "physically very demanding for me. It is challenging, something that I have never done before. It is a fantasy epic film and it has a lot of layers."

Also starring Jayam Ravi and Arya the historical drama is also blessed with the music of world acclaimed musician A R Rahman.

Rahman along with other star casts of the movie have also been seen to made an appearance in the Festival de Cannes to launch the film officially.

Being the first instalment of this historical drama 'Sanghamithra' is slated to release by the end of 2018.

On the workfront, the 31 year-old Bollywood diva is currently busy doing promotion of her upcoming film 'Behen Hogi Teri'.
