"Uncle Danny has been wonderful. He has supported me so much. He paid for my education and came to visit me every year. I’d go to visit him at his hotel and he’d ask me about my life. He has helped me a lot. Danny is very kind and loving to us. I love him too."
Last week, another news relating to ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ surfaced with her co-star, Azharuddin Ismail who is reported to have moved back to the slums in the Garib Nagar slums in Bandra, after falling on hard times. Speaking to the daily, his mother, Shameema, revealed sad details about his short career post Slumdog Millionaire stating that the actor would often fall ill which was made worse as the monthly funds they were receiving from the trust stopped coming,
"After Azhar turned 18, the Trust stopped paying monthly expenses, which was around Rs. 9,000 a month. It then became very difficult for us to run the household’’
“The stardom is over. Now I have to earn to run the family. Mumbai is crowded and polluted. I was born in a slum but never wanted to go back there’’ Shameema, who is now living with Azhar in a 10x10 ft room in Naupada, Bandra East adds.
“He (Azhar) would fall ill often. Since the past three years, I was struggling. I have spent a lot on his treatment and we had no option but to sell the house to deal with the situation,” she added.
