Smita Patil was truly a gift: Amitabh Bachchan

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, while remembering his “Namak Halaal” co-star Smita Patil, says the actress was the strongest woman he knew and her death was a big loss to the film industry.

“Namak Halaal” completes 34 years today and on the occasion, Bachchan revealed that Patil was uncomfortable throughout the film’s shoot as she wasn’t sure what she was doing in the movie.

“’Namak Halaal’ celebrates 34 years with the exceptional Smita Patil, who was so uncomfortable during the shooting of the entire film because she just could not understand why she was asked to do what she was asked to do in the film, Big B wrote on his blog.

“But she did it with a lot of personal persuasion from me and it came out fine. She was gentle and frail but stronger than anything you could ever encounter in a woman...truly a gift we lost we never should have,” the 73-year-old actor said.

Known for her performances in hard-hitting films like “Mandi”, “Bazaar” and “   Arth”, Prakash Mehra’s action-comedy “Namak Halaal” fell in a genre she was not accustomed to and maintained a safe distance from.
