Coolie No. 1’s team and their initiative to ban single-use plastic has received a thumbs-up from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Calling it a ‘Super Gesture' on Varun’s posts which the star calls it ‘the need of the hour’, Modi tweeted back stating that he was ‘happy’ to see the ‘film world contributing towards freeing India from single use plastic."
Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great intiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes. The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles. @PMOIndia pic.twitter.com/T5PWc4peRX

This initiative to ban plastic comes just as week after Varun Dhawan urged fans to go plastic-free after he received a plastic-free sipper from his co-star, Jackky Bhagnani. Sharing a pic of his gift by Jackky the note reads, "Dearest Varun, The coolest Coolie No. 1. Sharing the burden of making our world plastic-free with you. One sip at a time."
The initiative by the Coolie No.1 team to go plastic free is a follow-up to PM Modi’s monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat where he urged everyone to make India plastic-free which Varun also mentioned in his post. ‘’Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great intiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes’’ Varun’s tweet reads.
A remake of the 1995 Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer, the lead sees Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles. Directed by dad David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, the film is slated for a May 1, 2020 release.
