The year 1994 will go down in India's beauty pageant history as Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai brought laurels to the country with their crowning glory as Miss Universe and Miss World respectively. On May 21, 1994 an 18-year-old Bengali beauty bagged the coveted title of Miss Universe.
Sushmita Sen went down the memory lane and recalled her journey through an emotional Instagram post.
"I was 18-years-old when India won Miss Universe for the very first time on 21st May 1994. I am 42 now, still a 'miss' with a 'universe' inside me. Nothing has changed except the years. Thank you guys for the letters, cards & gifts but mostly for remembering the universe is lovingly abundant & so what we give out, we get more of. I celebrate with you India & Philippines (my second home)’’, the Main Hoon Na actress wrote.

Sushmita won millions of hearts with her perfect answer during the final round of the beauty pageant contest. The leggy lass was asked, ‘’What is the essence of being a woman?’’
''Just being a woman is God’s gift that all of us must appreciate. The origin of a child is a mother and is a woman. She shows a man what sharing, caring and loving is all about. That is the essence of a woman’’, Sushmita replied.
After winning the crown of Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen made the fans go awestruck with her Bollywood movies. The Biwi No. 1 actress stayed true to her words which she said during Miss Universe and adopted two beautiful daughters Renee And Alisah.
