Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji has courted controversy over the depiction of its central character Tanhaji Malusare since the filmmakers launched its trailer. Now the Delhi High Court on hearing a plea made by a Rajput Sangh has asked the filmmakers to use a disclaimer which states that the word 'Maratha' used in the movie was a general term referring to all soldiers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and had not been used to refer to any community.

What the Delhi HC ruled over the Rajput Sangh's Plea?

Justice Navin Chawla disposed of the plea filed by Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Koli Rajput Sangh Delhi through advocates Saurabh Kansal and Shallaj Kumar.

The petitioner, Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Koli Rajput Sangh has claimed that Om Raut, concealed the true lineage of the lead character and has asked  the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for banning the film from certification  and public viewing.

According to the petitioner the film does not bring into light  the true lineage of Tanhaji, the character essayed by Singham actor Ajay Devgn as he belonged to the community of Kshatriya Mahadeo Koli Maratha and not what has been shown. The plea further adds how the true identity of Tanhaji Malusare has not been shown in order to get commercial and political gains.

He requested the court to issue a direction to the filmmaker to show the true lineage of the great warrior in the movie.

Controversies that shrouded Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior

Earlier Sambhaji Brigade objected to a few things in the trailer of the movie. The organization has asked clarification on certain dialogues of the character of Savitri Malusare essayed by Kajol. They also pinpointed a man throwing a wooden stick at Shivaji Maharaj. They have also alleged that by showing the OM symbol on the saffron Maratha flag, the makers have attempted to erase Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s secular image and have distorted facts.  As per reports in Mumbai Mirror, the organization was quoted saying, “Movies should be made on historical topics, but we will not tolerate the distortion of historical incidents/facts.”
