Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak started at a snail’s pace on the opening day but picked up speed at the box office rapidly making a total business of Rs 19.02 cr on its opening weekend. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior on the other hand had an impressive opening week crossing Rs 50 crores in three days and making an impressive 30% jump in its earning.
This takes Tanhaji’s total weekend collections to Rs 61.75 crore. This is similar to the first weekend collections of Ajay’s 2019 film, Total Dhamaal, which had collected Rs 62.40 crore in the first three days of its release. Ajay had delivered two hits last year, with De De Pyaar De being the other one.
Sharing the box office figures of the film, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “Tanhaji has a heroic weekend... Footfalls, occupancy, numbers multiply on Day 2 and 3... Sets BO on fire on Day 3... #Maharashtra is exceptional... Other circuits witness big turnaround on Day 2 and 3... Fri 15.10 cr, Sat 20.57 cr, Sun 26.08 cr. Total: Rs 61.75 cr. India biz.”

Meanwhile, Chhapaak earned Rs 7.35 crore on Sunday, taking its total earnings to around Rs 19.02 crore. The film had opened below expectations at Rs 4.77 crore whereas Tanhaji had opened at Rs 15.10 crore.

Social media buzz about Deepika, great word of mouth review of the film resulted in the increase in footfall for the film based on the life and struggles of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Deepika's highest grossing movies on Day One has been Shah Rukh khan starrer Happy New Year, Chennai Express, Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani, Padmaavaat , in that order. As for Ajay Devgn it has been Singham Returns, Golmaal Again, Total Dhamaal in that order. Tanhaji: the Unsung Warrior with Rs 16 crore on day one stands at third position
