After Thackeray, Accidental Prime Minister and PM Narendra Modi, the stage is set to welcome some more political dramas. Bose: Dead/Alive starring Rajkummar Rao garnered rave reviews and now the wait is for The Tashkent Files that tries to solve the mystery behind the 2nd Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri.

With Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri directing the film, the makers announced that the trailer is set to release on March 25. Late on March 22nd posters of the movie were released that introduced us to the pivotal characters of the film.

The cast includes Pallavi Joshi as Aiysha Ali Shah an author and historian, Pankaj Tripathi as Gangaram Jha a Scientist, Shweta Basu Prasad as Raagini Phule, a rookie journalist, Mithun Chakraborty as Shyam Sundar Tripathi, leader of the opposition. All the posters ask the pertinent question, "Who Killed Shastri?"

Besides the above-named actors, other big names who will also be seen in the film are Naseeruddin Shah, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi.

Earlier, talking to PTI, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri who has written and directed the movie said, “On January 10, 1966, Shastri had signed the Tashkent Agreement and hours later he died. A death mystery unsolved to date. Was it a heart attack or poison? The truth of the biggest coverup has been denied to his family and us."

“Immediately after his death, the family members of Shastri officially requested a post-mortem to the then acting Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda, but to no avail, Vivek said. The family also had requested former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, but was not heeded to once again," he added.

The director has also earlier refuted rumours of it being a propaganda film. calling Shastri as India's first economic reformer and a military PM, he called the movie strictly a political thriller based on the mystery around his sudden demise.
