'Tubelight' box office collection: Salman Khan-starrer gets IMPRESSIVE start, mints over Rs 20 crore on first day

After creating much of the buzz in B-town, Salman Khan's much awaited 'Tubelight' finally hit the screens on Tuesday and just like every Salman movie, this Kabir Khan directorial is also expected to shatter several box office records. However, despite the mega promotions and extensive publicity, 'Tubelight' got an average start at the box office.

The movie, which was said to be Salman's Eid gift to his fans, made a collecition of just Rs 21.25 crore on its day of release.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the first day box office collections of the Salman Khan-starrer.

Surprisingly, while 'Tubelight' was expected to garner a humongous collection, it has failed to surpass the first collection of Salman's previous release 'Sultan'.

Taran shared the first day collection of Salman's last five releases where 'Tubelight' had the least first day earning, while 'Sultan' topped the list.

Notably, 'Tubelight' received a mixed response from the audience and critics, however, 'Sultan' actor once again managed to impress the audience with his acting skills.

On the other hand, the movie also witnessed an average occupancy on its day of release.

"Occupancy for today ranges anywhere from 35 per cent to even 75-80 per cent. One disadvantage the film is facing is that, it released in the last week of Ramzan, so the mass audience of Salman Khan is not coming to watch the film," trade analyst Akshaye Rathi told PTI.

"The response so far has been mixed but family audiences are coming in. A spike is expected on Monday as Eid is a big holiday," Rathi added.

Talking about 'Tubelight', the movie is Kabir Khan's third collaboration with Salman after 'Tiger Zinda Hai' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and the director has once again touched upon his favourite topic of cross-border relationship in this movie.

'Tubelight' is set the backdrop of India-China War of 1962 and revolves around the story of a two brothers, their unconditional love and faith in life.

Apart from Salman Khan, 'Tubelight' also stars Sohail Khan, Om Puri, Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and child actor Matin Rey Tangu.
