Varun Dhawan's performance in October, which many deemed it as his career-best did not make through the recent Bollywood awards season. The Shoojit Sircar film in fact failed to earn nominations in most of the major categories and this subbing isn’t sitting well with Dhawan. In a recent interview with a Mid-Day, the 31-year-old actor stated, "The press needs to write about the film (not being nominated). Till date, I get at least one message a day for that movie... The award shows have a lot of other criteria (at play). I am happy to go, perform at these events and get paid for it. I never did October for awards. I did it because the script clicked with me. Awards will come and go. This film will stay."
"Recently, Jacqueline Fernandez watched the film on a flight and called me to appreciate my performance. That is the royalty I am collecting," he added. The movie saw Varun take on the role of a hotel management trainee, who dedicates his life to being with a girl whom he is in love with after she falls into a coma.
October, though fared well with movie critics received a modest success at the box office, grossing over Rs 50 crore against a reported Rs 30 crore budget.
Varun Dhawan, meanwhile will be seen in Abhishek Varman’s Kalank alongside Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. Produced by Karan Johar, Kalank releases this April 17.
