Varun Dhawan on Friday has denied rumours to being a part of the Amar Kaushik hit horror comedy Stree sequel. Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao was an instant hit with moviegoers experiencing a different taste in the horror genre altogether. Given the tremendous success of the movie both with the moviegoers and at the box office, producer Dinesh Vijan had announced that he would be coming out with a sequel as a part of his ambitious horror-comedy franchise.
While the cast of the horror comedy sequel remains unknown, Varun Dhawan has dismissed rumours that he would be headlining the film originally featured Rajkummar Rao according to PTI. India Today and their reports also confirmed rumours that he won’t be replacing Rajkummar in the film.
According to PTI, Dhawan, when peaking at a special event of Kalank at Ishq 104.8 FM told reporters that he would not be a part of Stree 2. "No, it's false’’ he is reported to have quoted.
A source according to India Today rather hints to Rajummar Rao being placed in his former position, "Rajkummar is most definitely doing Stree 2. He is currently busy shooting for Turram Khan and is also working on the patchwork left for Mental Hai Kya. Raj is most likely to begin shooting for the horror comedy sequel by the year-end’’ the source added.
Varun's upcoming multi-starrer "Kalank" opens in cinemas on April 17, a week before the mammoth Marvel project "Avengers: Endgame" hits the screens worldwide.
When asked if he feels the superhero film will hamper the box office prospects of "Kalank", Varun said the audience is kind enough to go and watch both the films in theatres.
"Our film is coming out nine days before ('Avengers'), even internationally we are getting a big release. Nine days is a lot for 'Kalank' to be seen and liked by people. These days, if people like a film, it works. So if they like 'Kalank', it will continue to run. There is enough screen space for both these films to run."
