Thappad got much appreciation from critics especially Taapsee Pannu in her role of a woman who will not compromise on her self-respect for love and marriage. However, only a few talked about the actor opposite Taapse, new comer Pavail Gulati, who too made an impactful performance even after being a newcomer that invited both anger and empathy. Vidya Balan recently called Pavail to congratulate for his performance and even went on to sat that she hates her for liking him!
In an interview to Mid Day, Pavail said how he counts Vidya Balan’s appreciation as one of his most cherished feedbacks of the film. He said, “I had goosebumps while talking to her. She said, ‘I hate you; and I hate myself for liking you in the end’.”
In the movie, Pavail plays husband to Taapsee’s Amrita who is a otherwise loving husband but in a fit of rage, slaps her at a party. The filmmaker however didn’t make a villain out of Pavail’s Vikram who is spitefull. Instead he wanted the audience to relate with him and feel for him.
Speaking about his character, Pavail said, “Vikram was a layered character. Sir (director Anubhav Sinha) wanted him to as a nice guy so that he could be related to. We wanted people to hate him, but also sympathise with him”
Thappad, managed to make Rs 30.53 crores.
