New Delhi:

South superstar Ilayathalapathy Vijay has opened up on the recent troll of a female journalist by his fans and said that he respects woman the most and no one shall pass derogatory remarks against them under any circumstances.

The actor released an official statement and said, “It is my view that no woman should be spoken of in a demeaning way for any reason or any time.”

Surya's statement came after a female journalist criticised his movie 'Sura' on micro-blogging site Twitter and even compared it to Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'. This didn't go down well with Vijay's fans who backlashed the journalist with abusive and threatening comments.

According to the media reports, she received as many as 75,000 tweets within a span of 72 hours. In fact, the lady had to file an FIR with Chennai Police under sections of Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Woman Harassment Act and Indecent Representation of Women Act after which a case was registered against four people.

This was not all. The journalist even took it social networking site Twitter and wrote about the horrible experience she had to go through becuase of the abuse and sexual threats.

She wrote, "FIR filed. I may have done a lot of things you don't like or do not appreciate. You don't like my stories, jokes or plain stupid stuff I did. Criticise me, question my ethics... But please never use that to support abuse and sexual threats in any way. By doing that, we strengthen anonymous mobs. Yesterday was tough. Cops wanted us to give them the worst tweets. Reading thru it was a horrible experience. When I left the station, I thought of the trauma that actual sexual violence victims go thru. Mine is nothing compared to that. I am very very very thankful to a bunch of friends and my family. Thank you. [sic]"
