What! Mission Mangal had a higher budget than India's real Mars Mission!

Akshay Kumar has been extremely proud of his Bollywood ventures that have a patriotic undertone to it, the latest being Mission Mangal. The actor at the trailer launched revealed that he is not bothered about the box office fate of the movie but is extremely glad that it happened and along with that he made another surprising revelation.

The multi-starrer space drama with hardcore science and innovation means was made at a mammoth budget of Rs 500 crore. Surprisingly though, the real Mars Orbiter Mission was helmed at Rs 450 core

Jagan Shakti's Mission Mangal will bring forth the country's first interplanetary mission.

According to a report in Indian Express, Akshay said at the launch, "We didn’t have that much knowledge about Mars Orbiter Mission before we started working on the film. But slowly we came to know a lot, and it is because of Jagan (director Jagan Shakti). Mangalyaan cost only Rs 450 crore while NASA spent more than Rs 6000 crore for American Maven orbiter. My film 2.0 had a budget of 500 crore and this was less than that, so we are so proud."

Other than the fact that the ISRO succeeded on its first attempt, the most notable aspect of the Mangalyaan mission is its extremely low cost. Compare this to NASA’s MAVEN orbiter, which cost somewhere in the region of $485 million to develop — and around $187 million for the launch into space and further ground support. This means ISRO’s mission cost around 11% of NASA’s mission.

Akshay plays the role of mission director Rakesh Dhawan, who leads the initiative in the film. Akshay firmly maintains, "his film is about the women and it will always be."

Mission Mangal will clash with John Abraham's Batla House on August 15.
