Celebrated filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has repudiated the demand made by Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam to screen his upcoming film "Indu Sarkar" before it is screened for the censor board.
In a letter addressed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani, Nirupam expressed concerns regarding the potryal of of Indira Gandhi and other Congress party leaders.
He wrote, “The trailer of the film says it is a film on Emergency and hence we can see the likes of our beloved leaders like Indira Gandhi ji, Sanjay Gandhiji & senior leaders of Indian National Congress. We therefore want to be certain that our leaders are not shown in bad light and hence would like to see the film before it is censored.”

The filmmaker has refused to bow down to any such demands. "There is no question of showing the film to Congress or any political party, till the time the censor hasn't passed the film. It is my prerogative whom I should show or not show my film. Nobody can force me to show them the film.", Bhandarkar told PTI.
"I would tell Congress people to come and watch the film in theatres before making such comments on a film which hasn't even released, or cleared by the censor board", he further added.
"Indu Sarkar" is based on Emergency and is slated to hit theatres on July 28. Supriya Vinod dons the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi while Neil Nitin Mukesh plays Sanjay Gandhi in the film. The movie also stars Kirti Kulhari and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
