Rajesh Khanna’s sudden demise on July 18, 2012 sent shockwaves across the country. The Bollywood’s ‘first superstar’ tragically died of cancer, leaving behind a legacy of films that we still watch on a loop, songs that we continue to hum and cinematic moments that we just can’t forget. In a career spanning for over more than four decades, Rajesh Khanna featured in more than 160 films. Between 1969 and 1971 Rajesh Khanna was the undisputed king of the world. For the uninitiated, Rajesh Khanna delivered 15 hits in a row, a record still unbroken by any actor.
Here is the list of films that earned him the tag of ‘first superstar’ in Bollywood:
1969
- Aradhana – Blockbuster (biggest hit of the year)
- Ittefaq – Semi hit
- Doli – Semi hit

At present, there is no actor that can be compared with Rajesh Khanna but there are high chances that Bollywood’s heartthrob Varun Dhawan might break or at least reach that record in the coming years. Varun tasted stardom right from the beginning of his Bollywood career, a feat that is achieved only by a handful of stars. He has not delivered a single flop till now.

Varun made his Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012. The film did a good performance at the box-office. He was then seen after a gap of two years in 'Main Tera Hero', directed by father David Dhawan. Varun’s perfect comic timing was just enough to impress the audience. In 2015, Varun was seen in Badlapur where he portrayed the role of a miserable man devasted with the loss of his wife and son, out for revenge. His performance won a lot of adulation from audience as well as critics alike.
Then came, Remo D'Souza's ABCD 2, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2 which proved that he is going to be a big threat for all his contemporaries. In 2017, Varun starred in Shoojit Sircar’s October and left everyone spellbound with his charismatic performance. He beautifully played the role of Dan and won million of hearts. In the same year, he starred in Sui Dhaaga alongside Anushka Sharma and once again proved that there’s no one like him when it comes to versatility.
This means Varun has given 11 hits till date without a single flop. His recently released movie Kalank is running successfully in theatres. Now, let’s wait and watch to see if Varun will be that one actor who would break Rajesh Khanna’s record.
