New Delhi:

From the musical, Hasta la vista Baby in the Terminator to the warring hero in The Predator 1987, the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger and ‘cool’ went hand-in-hand. Reviews soared. There were no muddy camouflages for the extra-terrestrial warrior with the original, The Predator.
Given the success of the movie series, fans were ecstatic on the news of The Predator reboot. Specially with casts like Boyd Holbrook, agent Steve Murphy the DEA agent responsible for the fall of the infamous drug lord, Pablo Escobar, who wouldn’t?

Well, the reviews says otherwise. With a rating of just over 35 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 45 per cent at Metacritic, Shane Black’s, The Predator reboot failed drastically to live up to the 1987, The Predator glory. Apart from the cast being quirky and fun, Alan Silvestri's stirring 1987 Predator score gets re-enacted throughout, but without Arnold of course.

Humanity's addiction to violence has been the element of these movies, and reviews hinted that, that would have kept Black's joke machine droning along for one hour-58 minutes to see the gigantic arms warding off the predators. Instead, Shane Black attempts to broaden the world of the franchise, adding Predator vs Predator to the old formula of Human vs Human vs Predator.

Even more bizarrely, fascinating plot to the Predator is them exhibiting humane concerns than humans themselves. And, the audience thought the predators were supposed to be the bad guys, ....not quite so. Although, this concern is subtle, the audience are scented with the sniff that the Predators are more concerned about climate change than humans are.

In fact, Predator 2, which was made on a tight budget almost 30 years ago, still looks better than The Predator does. Reviews on the Predator speculates that the fate of the movie hangs as that of special ops sniper, the only survivor of a Mexico-set prologue where his platoon is ambushed by one of the dreadlocked title beasts.

The original 1987, The Predator according to the reviews still remains the high-water mark of the Predator franchise. The movie remains a mixed bag for now.
