Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner just revealed that co-actor Kit Harington, who plays everyone’s favorite as the bastard son, Jon Snow receives a bigger check than her. The surprising thing, however, is that Turner who plays Sansa Stark in the George RR Martin's HBO hit show is least bothered by the wage gap.
The 23-year-old actor told Harper’s Bazaar UK, ‘’Kit
“But he had a bigger storyline,” she continued. “And for the last series, he had something crazy like 70-night shoots, and I didn’t have that many. I was like, ‘You know what... you keep that money’’ she added.
She also told the magazine that demanding equal pay can get ‘a little tricky’ simply because actors don’t always all do the same job. Turner’s statement came quite a shocker given the fact that in recent times, the gender pay gap in the silver screen has become one of the most debated topics. And we have also seen the likes of actors like Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth in The Crown’s first two seasons was reportedly paid less than Matt Smith, who played Prince Phillip as it also the case with Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle who were reportedly making far less than their co-stars Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner.
The actor further added that now all her contracts come with an inclusion rider, which ensures a 50:50 male/female workforce on the sets.
"Now, you see women in the camera departments, producing, directing. It's exciting," she added.
Turner said nowadays people are engaging in conversations about pay more readily.
"(Executives are) more willing to listen to people saying, 'I want the same amount of money.' So things are getting done, but it will take a while, I think..." she said.
GOT returns with its eighth and final season on April 14.
