John Cena may be the newest addition for James Gunn’s 2016 Suicide Squad reboot. According to reports, the WWE wrestler-turned-actor John Cena is in early negotiations to board filmmaker James Gunn's upcoming Suicide Squad along with Idris Elba and Margot Robbie in Warner Bros' follow-up to 2016's Suicide Squad.
Robbie is returning as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney is back as Captain Boomerang while Edris Elba according to Variety will not be taking on Will Smith’s Deadshot role despite rumours. Elba will reportedly play a brand-new character. Cena’s role in the James Gunn 2016 also remains unknown with Warnes Bros. decided to keep a zipped mouth for the fantasy-action film about an intelligence officer who assembles a team of imprisoned super-villains to execute dangerous black ops missions.
James Gunn will return to write and direct the movie which hits theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
The original Suicide Squad starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto was a massive box office sensation when it hit theaters in 2016, grossing $746.8 million worldwide.
