Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker'Â will be released with an R-rating. As the awaited Batman spinoff nears its release date with fist-clenching anticipation to see the â€˜Herâ€™ actor stepping into the role left so impactful by the late Heath Ledger, director Todd Philips confirmed the news of its release along with a new image of Phoenix as The Joker.Â
The news came as a respond to a fan who asked about the dark, superhero movie. "MPAA rating?? a fan asked Phillips. Confirming the news that the Batman spinoff will be get an R rating in comments thread, Phillips shared the news with his latest Instagram photo, showing Phoenix transforming into theÂ BatmanÂ villain writing, "It will be Rated R. I've been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry."
â€œJokerâ€ will reportedly be set in 1981 and stars Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a stand-up comedian whose failed attempts to become famous force him into the criminal underworld of Gotham City.
Th dark, superhero movie will see supporting casts with the likes of Robert De Niro as a talk show host who factors into Arthurâ€™s psychological downfall and â€œDeadpoolâ€ star, Zazie Beetz as a single mother who is Arthurâ€™s love interest, Frances Conroy, Bill Camp, and Marc Maron among others.
As a standalone film, Joker has been described as a darker and more experimental in tone and content. Phoenix has previously described the movie as feeling more like a low-budget indie than a giant comic book movie, while Marc Maron recentlyÂ shared â€œJokerâ€ is the â€œcharacter study of a mentally ill person.â€
Co-written by Â Scott Silver along-with filmmaker Todd Phillips, Joker is set for release on October 4.
