Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are getting together for a romance drama, Ammonite. According to the reports, The Titanic star and the Lady Bird star will be starring in the independent historical story inspired by the life of fossil hunter, Mary Anning. The story will be set in a UK coastal town in the 1840s that will follow the unlikely romance between palaeontologist Mary Anning and a young London woman of means to whom she must unexpectedly play nursemaid. Anning to star by Winslet will also be credited to a role where she is known to make key scientific discoveries in the Jurassic marine fossil beds in the cliffs along the English Channel.
Francis Lee who is critically acclaimed writer-director and had also earlier directed gay romance God’s Own Country, will be directing the historical-romance drama.

Ammonite is a See-Saw Films production by Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, whose credits include Widows, lion and The King’s Speech, alongside Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly (“Lady Macbeth”). See-Saw developed the drama with the British Film Institute and BBC Films. Principal photography is set for March.
Winslet who has been nominated for seven Academy Awards and won for Stephen Daldry’s 2008 The Reader’ is in post on Avatar 2 and is filming the drama Blackbird. Three-time Oscar nominee Ronan was last seen onscreen with Margot Robbie at Mary Queen of Scots.
