“Aquaman” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has landed a lead role alongside Keanu Reeves in upcoming Matrix 4. As per Variety, Lana Wachowski met with actors for the secret role over the last week and in recent days and emerged as a forerunner in the leads alongside Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity). There has, however, not been an official word on the role Abdul-Mateen will take on although rumors indicated he will be playing a young version of Laurence Fishburne’s character, Morpheus.

The film, with the script written by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell with Grant Hill on producing duties, is expected to begin production some time in 2020. Warner Bros. in August however announced that a fourth “Matrix” movie is officially in the works, with Reeves and Moss returning and Wachowski on board to write and direct.
The three previous films — “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” — have collectively earned more than $1.6 billion at the global box office. All three were written and directed by Lana and her sister, Lilly, and starred Reeves and Moss.
