More than 10 years after Jade Goody died from cervical cancer in March 2009 at the age of just 27, her mum Jackiey Budden in exclusive interview with The Sun claims that her daughter’s terminal cancer could be because of her daughter’s ill treatment to Shilpa Shetty in the fifth series of Celebrity Big Brother, 2007. According to The Sun, Jackiey on the upcoming Channel 4 documentary ‘Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain’ explains that the CBB controversy that sparked media outrage over Jade’s comment on Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, saying she needed "a day in the slums" and referring to her as “Shilpa Poppadom” haunted Jade until the day she died.‘
''One night she felt really scared because, obviously, she knew she was going very soon.‘She said, “Mum I feel like they’re coming to get me. They’re coming to get me. It’s going all dark”.
“Is that because I was so bad in Big Brother?”‘ Jackiey explained.
Jade, who shot to fame on Big Brother 3, returned to the famous house alongside her mum and then-boyfriend Jack Tweed after coming fourth in Big Brother in 2002 but her appearance went downhill due to her, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O’Meara’s treatment of Shilpa Shetty in the house.
As for Shilpa who went on to win CBB, 2007 told host Davina McCall that she bore no ill feelings towards Jade, ‘Things happen, people make mistakes and we all learn from them. But I can say one thing for sure. Jade didn’t mean to be racist. She isn’t a racist. I really don’t want to leave England putting anyone in trouble. ‘This country has given me so much. I just want to thank all of Great Britain for giving me this fantastic opportunity to make my country proud’’ she said.
