A nude scene featuring screen icon Marilyn Monroe in John Huston's The Misfits which was believed to have been destroyed has been rediscovered. The scene was cut from the final print of the film by the director, reported Deadline.

Author Charles Casillo, while researching for his book Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon, got to know about the existence of the footage.

In an interview with Casillo, Curtice Taylor, son of "Misfits" producer Frank Taylor, revealed that he has kept the footage in a locked cabinet since his father's death in 1999.

The scene in question with Clark Gable, shows Monroe dropping the bed-sheet covering her body. It would have been one of the first if not the first nude scenes by an American actor in a major production in the sound era of film if it had made it into the final version, the website said.

Huston, however, put his foot down when it came to the scene as he felt it was not required for the story but Taylor kept the footage.

Filmed in 1961, The Misfits was written by Monroe's then-husband, Arthur Miller, and revolved around three cowboys vying for the attention of a beautiful woman.  It was Monroe's last film.
