New Delhi:

Shout-out to more inclusivity! The upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel will have its first Muslim in lead character. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who spoke about the plans of the character last year confirmed the making of the character at the D23 Expo last week along with two other new Disney+ original scripted series, Moon Knight and She-Hulk.

Kamala Khan or Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson made history in 2014 by being the first Muslim Marvel character to headline her own title in the comics. The comics focused on the Muslim American diaspora as the Muslim teenager went on her superhero adventures within the larger Marvel universe. As od now, the upcoming movie will see screenwriter and comedian Bisha K. Ali write and act as showrunner for the series, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Co-creator G. Willow Wilson recently discussed the upcoming Disney+ series that will bring her titular superhero to the small screen, saying she never imagined Kamala Khan as a live-action character. Speaking to Polygon about some of the potential challenges of transferring the character from page to screen Wilson said that Kamala's move to the MCU is "completely wild" but something she's eager to see.

"I think there're some characters who are very much set up for the big screen; they're very naturally sort of cinematic," she said, adding, "But with Ms. Marvel, we really weren't interested in creating something that had very obvious film potential."

"[We] were really leaning into the comic book-ness of this character. She's got very comic booky powers," she continued. "God bless them trying to bring that to live action; I don't know how that's going to work out in a way that doesn't look really creepy."

It's just incredible to me to have been a part of that," she added.
