Disney’s live action remake ‘Mulan’ has been urged to boycott after actress Liu Yifei voiced her support for Hong Kong police. The Mulan star on Thursday shared a Weibo post that read "I also support Hong Kong police. You can beat me up now'' while also furthering in English "What a shame for Hong Kong’’.

Her post came just after the Hong Kong legislature introduced a controversial bill that would allow criminal suspects to potentially be extradited to mainland China igniting mass protest, strikes, between the police and the protesters.

Shortly after she reposted the message, #BoycottMulan began trending online, with many critics suggesting the actress was condoning police brutality and also pointed to the freedoms she enjoys as an American citizen.

A live-action remake of the 1998 Mulan, Disney’s Mulan stars Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson Ani in pivotal roles.
