Becoming every movie lover’s favourite with Joker, it didn’t’ take long for fans to notice that Beyoncé remained seated when Joaquin Phoenix was awarded the ‘Best Actor’ for Joker. Sitting next to Phoenix himself, Beyoncé remained seated even while other stars sitting next to Phoenix such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Reese Witherspoon, Ellen DeGeneres and Phoenix’s fiancee, Rooney Mara all stood up.
Shoving the queen with some humble-pie, eagle-eyed netizens took to Twitter to tear apart Beyoncé calling her ‘rude’ and ‘disrespectful’.
‘Sorry but I don’t think this is “the type of energy” anyone should be praised for. I don’t know if there was another reason for her sitting but the fact she didn’t stand with everyone else, especially during a standing ovation is rude, point blank’ wrote one user.

Joaquin Phoenix deserved that standing ovation after winning the award for best actor... but I guess Beyoncé didn’t think so #GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/1h63mLWc28

‘Beyonce refused to stand up for Joaquin Phoenix when he won his Golden Globe, pulled a face when her Lion King soundtrack lost out to The Rocketman one and turned up to the ceremony an hour late. I honestly don’t get what’s so admirable about her she’s a sleazy person’ another slammed.
For the unfamiliar, Bey has acquired quiet a name for not standing up during award shows. She even refused to stand up when she was nominated for Best Original Song for Spirit from The Lion King.
Some however felt that she remained seated because of her large dress, ‘Just putting it out there. MAYBE Beyoncé didn’t stand during Joaquin Phoenix’s standing ovation because her dress was massive & would have been a pain to get out of her chair with and then gather it to sit down again.
Just a thought. Maybe it wasn’t a statement’ wrote one user on Bey’s defence.
Joaquin Phoenix was awarded the ‘Best Actor’ for his performance in Todd Phillips’s Joker. Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ beat Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), and Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) and the 77th annual Golden Globes on Sunday night.
