For viewers who fail to make it can watch its repeat telecast at Star Movies and Star Movies at 8:30 pm on February 25.
Roma, Green Book, Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman and Bohemian Rhapsody are said to be the top contenders for Best Picture this year. Interestingly, Black Panther is the first ever superhero film to be nominated for the coveted award. A Star Is Born and Vice have received 8 nominations each followed by Marvel’s Black Panther that has received 7 nominations. Christian Bale, Rami Malek, Glenn Close and Mahershala Ali are among the favourites this year.
Kevin Hart, who was roped in to host the award ceremony this year, stepped down following a controversy that erupted when some of his homophobic tweets from years ago resurfaced on the internet. The awards night will have no host for the first time in 30 years.
The organisers in an attempt to keep the live telecast under three hours have also earlier announced that four Academy Awards - best cinematography, film editing, short films and makeup/hairstyling - would be given out during the commercial breaks. However, on receiving a massive backlash from Hollywood A-listers like George Clooney, Christopher Nolan among others, the awarding committee was forced to take back their decision.
