Prince Harry will tie the knot with popular actress Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle on Saturday. Right from the venue to the guest list, everything related to the much-awaited wedding is creating buzz on the internet.
The royal family is known for its penchant for making their wedding cakes extravagant. Meghan and Harry’s wedding will be unconventional as a perfectly-balanced lemon sponge cake prepared from elderflower Swiss meringue and decorated with white buttercream has been made.
All the royal family weddings have served fruit cakes as opposed to the lemon cake in today’s wedding.
The cake has been made from 200 Amalfi lemons, 20kg of butter, 20kg of sugar, 10 bottles of Sandringham elderflower cordial and 500 organic eggs. A team of seven bakers has prepared the lemon cake over the past five days in the Buckingham Palace kitchen.

The royal family has granted the sneak peek of the three-part layered cake. The cake will be presented at The Wedding Breakfast, a tradition which dates back to Queen Victoria’s wedding day.Â
"The cake is made up of lemon sponge. it has the elderflower drizzle on the sponge and has an Amalfi lemon curd. It has swiss meringue buttercream with elderflower," Claire Ptak, owner of Violet Bakery said.
