Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who has helmed Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, is all set to make his superhero genre debut. The Academy Awards winner will direct the film adaptation of DC Comics'- Blackhawk.
Blackhawk which was published in 1841 centres on a team of World War II fighter pilots who fight off the Nazis. The team is led by a mysterious man called as Blackhawk, who operates from a hidden base.
The Ready Player One director will produce the action adventure film along with Amblin Entertainment for Warner Bros, the Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros Pictures Group announced on Tuesday.
"We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg's latest hit and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can't wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing 'Blackhawk' to movie audiences worldwide," Toby Emmerich said in a statement.
David Koepp, who has collaborated with Steven Spielberg in films like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Jurassic Park, will pen down the script for the upcoming project. The dynamic duo is known for their high success rate.
Talking about Spielberg, the Saving Private Ryan director is currently busy with the preparations of the fifth instalment of Indiana Jones. The 71-year-old filmmaker will soon begin work on the remake of West Side Story.
