Robert Downey Jr. wants a very Tony Stark way of cleaning the earth. The actor who plays Marvel’s billionaire tech wiz, Tony Stark wants to give his love for robotics in real life. Speaking at Amazon's Machine Learning, Automation, Robotics and Space (MARS) conference in Las Vegas last night, the 54-year-old announced a very Iron Man method of cleaning the earth beyond the silver screen.

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” Downey Jr. said. “God I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects,” he joked during his talk.

“It took 11 years to complete three Marvel phases and I’m willing to spend the next 11 years making good on that statement, that between robotics and nanotechnology we can probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade.”

"I know it's a kumbaya type dream. It's a logistical clusterfuck. I'm down with dedicating myself to maybe one small part of making good on that statement, even in abject failure, it's still the best idea I've ever had’’ he added.

During his 20 minutes talk, Downey Jr. who played Iron Man painted AI as a significant technological advancement that gave him hope “I have this quiet sense of crisis,” he said, admitting that he had contributed more than others to the climate crisis. “I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus,” he said.

The 54 year old actor though didn’t reveal any details on how the organization was going to achieve its goal added that this small effort could be the most important thing he had ever done.
