Ever pictured Jim Carrey as Jack Torrance in the Jack Nicholson starrer, The Shining? Well, someone apparently did, and it looks so realistic you have to wipe your eyes twice to know that it is a deepfake video. Uploaded by 'Ctrl Shift Face' using deepfake technologies, deepfake videos use an AI-generated algorithm that makes it possible to scan a celebrity’s face and upload it onto preexisting video content.
While the technology can prove and have proven dangerous, given how it can be misused, this face-swapping of Jack Nicholson with Jim Carrey’s face is downright scary as was Nicolson’s from the Stephen King adaptation. The video shows Carrey seamlessly integrated into Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” to appear opposite Shelley Duvall in one of the film’s most famous scenes.
“The Shining” deepfake, uploaded by the Ctrl Shift Face on YouTube has gone viral with nearly one million views since July 8.
Mike Flanagan’s upcoming 2019 film ‘Doctor Sleep’ will reportedly pick up events depicted in The Shining 40 years later with Ewan McGregor starring as Jack Torrance’s son, Dan, a character from the original adaptation.
