Spanish director Pedro Almodovar willhead the jury of the Cannes Film Festival 2017. The director, who was a part of the jury in 1992, has been to the Cannes competition with five of his films.
In his 35-year-old career, Almodovar has directed films like "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown", "BrokenEmbraces", "Volver", "Bad Education" and "Julieta".
The actors he has collaborated with are Penlope Cruz,Marisa Paredes, Antonio Banderas, Rossy de Palma, JavierBardem, Javier Cmara, Carmen Maura and Victoria Abril.
In a statement, Almodovar said being appointed as the jury of the 70th edition of the festival was a "privileged position".
"I am grateful, honoured and a bit overwhelmed. I am aware of the responsibility that entails being the president of the jury and I hope to be up to the job. I can only tell that I'll devote myself, body and soul, to this task, that it is both a privilege and a pleasure," Almodovar said.
The Cannes jury is responsible for awarding 20 films in the main competition.
