Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe’s psychological horror, The Lighthouse just dropped and it reeks with madness. Taking a route less taken in the cinematic world of photo-realistic visuals, director Robert Eggers who made his debut with the critically acclaimed movie, The Witch, Eggers’s black and white flick shows Dafoe and Pattinson, keepers of lighthouse who is “just looking to earn a living, on the run,†fights to keep their sanity and the unknown beings that lurks in the black waters.

The trailer shows the two guardians killing their time drinking, battling stormy weather, wandering the ominous lighthouse until the ominous turns into an omen with shots of a mysterious woman underwater as Dafoe yells “Why’d ya spill yer beans?â€. With flashes of the supernatural, the octopus-like-creatures and Dafoe trying to chase down Pattinson with an axe, the trailer shows loneliness and hysteria grip the two actors as they battle to differentiate reality from madness.
‘’How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,†Dafoe can be seen asking Pattinson in one scene.
‘’The Lighthouse,†was premiered at Cannes Film Festival in May, will also screen at Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film opens in the theatres this October 18.
