The Simpsons, which is one of the most loved sitcoms on the small screen, has added a new record in its kitty. The popular animated sitcom has become the longest running scripted show in American television history.
The Fox network show has claimed the title of the most number of episodes for a prime time TV show from Gunsmoke. Gunsmoke ran for 20 seasons from 1955 to 1975 and produced 635 episodes.
The series, which is a satirical depiction of working-class life with the Simpson family, has broadcasted 636 episodes till Sunday. The fan favourite series which has seen 29 seasons was launched on December 17, 1989.
The Simpsons which was originally created by Matt Groening passed the 20-season mark in 2009. A flick by the name- The Simpsons Movie, was released in July 27, 2007 and grossed more than $527 million at the box office.
The show, set in the fictional town of Springfield has bagged 32 Primetime Emmy Awards, 30 Annie Awards and a Peabody Award. TIME magazine, in its 1999 issue, named The Simpsons as the century’s best television series.
The show continues to remain a hit with the television audience even after so many years. We won’t be surprised if it manages to create more records.
