Actor Tom Cruise is officially announced to star in the upcoming reboot of the 1999 superhit movie “The Mummy”.
The revamp movie, also starring “Kingsman” actress Sofia Boutella, has got a new release date—June 9, 2017, said The Hollywood Reporter.
It was earlier set to arrive in the US on March 24, 2017. The ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’ actor is officially announced to star in the upcoming revamped movie along with Sofia Boutella.
It is now pitted against “World War Z 2” and “The Divergent Series: Ascendant”.
Cruise, 53, and 33-year-old Boutella’s roles are still unclear but the film is rumoured to have a female mummy as a villain and centre on an ex-Navy Seal who stumbles into an old tomb.
“The Mummy” is one of the many remakes planned by Universal as an effort to create an interconnected universe for their classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and vampire hunter Van Helsing.
Alex Kurtzman is set to direct the reboot from a screenplay by Jon Spaights (“Prometheus”). Alex is also attached to oversee the creative team creating the new Monster franchise.
