While cinephiles countdown the Top Gun: Maverick release, one familiar face won’t be making a come-back. Kelly McGillis who plays Tom Cruise’s love interest, Charlotte Blackwood in the Tom Gun movies claims she was not asked to return for the 1986 sequel. Sitting down with Entertainment Tonight, McGillis went candid about not having a role alongside the Tom, 57.

Talking about the Maverick, the Golden Globe nominee said, “I’m old and I’m fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about,” the 62-year-old told the outlet. “But...I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff.”

Kelly went on to add that she ‘isn’t racing’ to the cinema to watch the Top Gun sequel and is unsure if she’ll even join in the promotional tour.

‘If and when it did happen, I would have to assess where I am, what I’m doing, what’s going on … I can’t project what I would or wouldn’t do in the future. I have no idea because I don’t know where I’ll be,’ Kelly explained.

Top Gun: Maverick, will once again see Cruise reprises his role the titular role as Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Actress Jennifer Connelly is likely to fit into the shoes of McGillis’s as Maverick’s main love interest though no confirmation has been made clear. McGillis giving her blessings to Connelly who is likely to play Charlotte added, “I’m glad for her.”

"Top Gun: Maverick" hits theaters June 26, 2020.
