As it turns out it was not Disney and Sony arriving at mutual understanding that helped save Spider-Man’s exit from MCU but ‘three pints’ Tom Holland had chucked down the previous night at the pub. Appearing at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new movie Spies In Disguise, Tom joked that it was him that ‘saved Spider-Man’.

‘We were at D23 which is the big Disney convention, and the news had come out, and I was obviously devastated, I was really upset. All my Marvel friends were there and they were taking Marvel pictures and I was like … not allowed to be in them, it was awful.

‘I asked if I could get Bob’s email, because I just wanted to say thank you. I wanted to say “this has been amazing five years of my life, thank you for changing my life in the best way, and I hope we can work together in the future”.

‘’And I got his email, and I sent him the email, and he responded very quickly saying “I’d love to jump on the phone with you at some point, when are you free?”And you don’t give Bob Iger a schedule. Whenever, Bob’ Tom tells Fallon.

Tom recalls that it was after that fateful night he got a buzz from Disney head,: ‘My family and I went to the pub quiz in our local town. I’m like, three pints in, I haven’t eaten much, and I get a phone call from an unknown number’’.

‘’And I have a feeling this is Bob Iger, but I’m drunk.’ His father convinced him to answer the phone, and good thing he did. ‘I basically just said “thank you for the opportunity” and he said “there is a world where we can make this work”,’ Tom explained.
