'Bareilly Ki Barfi': Ayushmann, Kriti, Rajkummar's rom-com is a delightful entertainer

Star cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao

Director: Ashwini Iyer Tiwari

Ratings: 3/5

Remember the popular song 'Jhumka Gira Re Bareilly Ke Bazaar Me' featuring Saadhna? Well, it is time to move over Bareilly ka Jhumka, as director Ashwini Iyer Tiwari has come up with a new flavour of  Bareilly as 'Bareilly Ki Barfi'.

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao in the lead, 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' is a small town romantic comedy featuring a love triangle but with an interesting twist.

The story revolves around a young girl Bitti (played by Kriti Sanon), who is in search of a mysterious writer, who she believes knows her inside out after she reads his book 'Bareilly Ki Barfi'. Her quest leads her to the local printing press guy Chirag Dubey (played by Ayushmann Khurrana), who is quite smitten by Bitti's carefree attitude and fall for her eventually. But just when everything seems perfect, it is time for the big twist as a character named Pritam Singh Vidrohi (played by Rajkummar Rao) enters the frame, making a simple, sweet love story turn into an interesting love triangle. It is quite intriguing to see who wins Bitti's heart and how.

This sweet and charming love story brings Kriti Sanon in a never seen before avatar and you will fall in love with her desi girl appearance. The diva has worked pretty hard to get out of her urban image and get the small town accent quite straight something which was out of her comfort zone. In fact, her dialogues like “Tum kaahe liliya rahi ho (Why are you anxious?)” even shows how comfortable she has been with her chracter.

Ayushmann is the true love boy in 'Bareilly Ki Barfi', who leaves no stone unturned to impress his lady and her family. But this wasn't something new to the actor. He was his usual self, portraying that street-smart, cool guy with some humorous dialogues in his kitty. On the other hand, Rajkummar is seen as the sweet, innocent, soft-spoken salesman which is often suppressed by people around. However, his transformation from a simple guy to a ‘rangbaaz’ is quite interesting and will leave interested in the story.

Ashwini Iyer Tiwari has summed up this quirky love-story with an excellent direction, perfect script, relatable situations and believable characters; not to forget the the hilarious one liners used by the characters at several points, like “Ye toh aastin ka anaconda nikla,” “Ye Bitti raat bhar kahan ghumti rehti hai, ladki hai koi chudail thode na hai,” “Sushila se sandaas tak sab dikh raha hai" and many more.

Adding on to the charm of the movie is its soothing music which suits each situation pretty well. Be it with a romantic number 'Nazm Nazm' to the peppy track 'Twist Kamariya', each track of the movie has some treat for the audience.

Over all, 'Bareilly Ki Barfi', just like its name, is a sweet, light-hearted movie which is worth a watch and will certainly leave the audience impressed.
