Dream Girl Movie Review: Ayushmann Khurrana's Film Makes You Laugh Endlessly

Ayushmann Khurrana in Dream Girl.

Ayushmann Khurrana delivers yet another knock out performance in Raaj Shaandaliya's directorial debut, Dream Girl. A quirky and crazy comedy, the film makes you laugh endlessly, courtesy hilarious jokes and perfect comic timing of lead characters. The story starts with Karamveer Singh (Ayushmann Khurrana) as a child unwillingly agreeing to play the role of Sita in his town’s Ramlila, and he continues to do the same even during his mid-20s. Later he takes a job as Pooja at the friendship call centre where women sweet-talk with lonely men. Blessed with sexy and mesmerising voice, Karam aka Pooja soon finds a queue of men who fall head over heels in love with him.

From police officer Rajpal (Vijay Raaz) to a young chap (Raj Bhansali) with a heavy Haryanavi accent to his own father (Annu Kapoor), his clients get mesmerised with Pooja's seductive voice. But the situation takes a U-turn when each client falls in love with this kind, funny stranger.

With such a unique role, Ayushmann has proved yet again that he is a risk taker. He plays the character to perfection. Nushrat Bharucha, who plays love interest of Ayushmann, has done justice to what was offered. Annu Kapoor's brilliant comic timing makes Dream Girl an entertaining watch. Vijay Raaz, Manjot Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Nidhi Bisht and Raj Bhansali make an applause worthy effort. However, the film loses its sheen in the second half and fails to live up to its hype due to too many plot twists and repetitive sequences.

Talking about the film's music, it's peppy and works well with the script. While Radhe Radhe celebrates the festive fever of Janmashtami, Dil Ka Telephone is quite entertaining. Ik Mulaqaat is a soothing love ballad and you can surely hear it on loop. Raaj Shaandaliya surely deserves credit for bringing something new on the table. Dream Girl is a perfect blend of storyline and funny characters.

It is a must watch mainly for Ayushmann’s laudable performance and if you want a laughing ride this weekend.
