Star cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Aru Krishansh Verma
Director: Imtiaz Ali
Ratings: 2.5/5
After a lot of buzz and extensive promotion strategies, Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' finally opened at the box office this Friday.
The story revolves around a Gujarati chhori Sejal and a Punjabi tour guide Harry aka Harindar Singh Nehra, who are on a Europe tour to find a missing diamond ring. They come across a series of adventure, some romantic moments, fall-in-love moments and what not.
The beginning of the movie shows Harry (played by SRK) as a frustrated tourist guide in Amsterdam who is in search of peace and satisfaction in his life. The clueless, frustrated look will remind you of Saif Ali Khan's character from 'Love Aaj Kal'. Confused about what he wants from life, Harry's life is a complete mess and often boasts the image of a casanova who is frequently in and out of a relationship.
But his life turns upside down when Sejal Jhaveri (played by Anushka Sharma) stays back in Amsterdam to look out for her missing engagement ring. Anushka looks adorable in her chirpy like image or in King Khan's words 'Sweet si, sister-type' girl. She has tried her best to get into the Gujarati accent but is often seen faltering. However, she does cover it up with comic timing and that oh-so-cute-smile.
Coming to the story, those who are aware of Imtiaz Ali's leitmotifs will find out how a similar story is being told once again with a different star cast, different location and of course some twists and turns. So 'Jab Harry Met Sejal', just like Imtiaz's previous directorials- has a confused guy who meets an already committed girl and then the two end up falling for each other.
However, with JHMS you will find a blend of Imtiaz's 'Tamasha' and Zoya Akhtar's 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'.
Confused?
Well, in 'Jab Harry Met Sejal', SRK-Anushka will be seen following the 'Tamasha' rule of ' 'what happens in Corsica, stays in Corsica' and this is when they on a fun-filled road trip in the spectacular locales of Europe just as it happens in ZNMD. Indeed, cinematographer K. U. Mohanan has displayed a flawless talent in capturing the picturesque beauty of the locales of Europe.
But what will catch your attention is the sizzling chemistry between Anushka and King Khan. SRK, who is undoubtedly the 'King Of Romance', is once again in his comfort zone. He appears to be like the red wine, the mature he gets, the more he makes you fall in love with him.
On the other hand, Anushka, who is sharing the screen space with Khan for the third time, shares an easy camaraderie with the superstar and it is evident enough in the movie too.
The two actors look just perfect and comfortable enough with each other and their chemistry takes you to an altogether different world of dreams. Not to forget, SRK's passionate lip-lock, which not just makes him irresistible but also makes you skip a heart beat.
Talking about the music, 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' has a mixture of songs for every genre from the foot-tapping numbers to some soulful tracks too. However, the music too has got an average response from the audience, which might add up to JHMS' woes.
All in all, you can love the movie for SRK's comfort with romance, his chemistry with Anushka and the locations, but the poor story-line might play a big spoiler for missing the zing in it.
