New Delhi:

Raman Raghav 2.0 brings Anurag Kashyap back to his comfort zone which he had surprisingly struggled in Bombay Velvet (2015).

The soul of film is portrait of a serial killer Raman Raghav that gave Mumbai slums many sleepless nights in the sixties. The real character has been brought to life with added dark shades in its 21st century version.

The film opens with a disclaimer "The film is not about him". Instead, this is about new age killer Ramanna on the same lines. But then this also not just about the new age Ramanna either.

It's a twisted crime drama that tries to pit a law breaker against lawman. The battle of a new age psychopath and a killer to boot versus a sleep deprived, drug addict cop.

The exercise results in a dark, witty and nerve wrecking drama which keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The thriller has been segmented into eight-chapters, each having its own flavour.

The film is pacey. It demands rapt attention from its audiences to follow the plots twists and turns.

Deadly Ramanna (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) gives goosebumps every time he takes screen over with a wheel wrench and kills at random or sometime by design on the streets and slums of Mumbai.

Vicky Kaushal has evolved as an actor. He had garnered a lot of praise for his character in Masaan; with his cop avatar he acts as a perfect foil to Nawazuddin's Ramanna.

The leading lady Smrutika Naidoo (debutante Sobhita Dhulipala), didn’t get much of screen presence.

Jay Oza's camera presents Mumbai dipped in a different shade of crime and disaster. Ram Sampath's musical chords and crisp editing of the film are other factors that ensure people don’t tick with one tone of the movie.

Back in his comfort zone Raman Raghav 2.0 can easily be counted as among Kashyap’s best so far.

Final Verdict: A must watch for all Anurag Kashyap and Nawazuddin Siddiqui fans.
