Like it or hate it remakes of classic Bollywood songs have seen a rapid rise over the recent years. While some see it as a show of appreciation to the original some, in contrast, have started to question if the industry has run out of ideas. From Sonakshi Sinha’s Mungda remake that even drove the legendary Lata Mangeshkar to voice out her disapproval to Humma Humma, Ek Do Teen, Dilbar to the recent announcement of O O Jaane Jana remake, the list goes on and on. Taking notice of this increasing trend apart from the music lovers is music magnate, Shaan himself, who took the stand to voice out his opinion against the remake/remix of classic Bollywood songs.
The playback singer who has lent his voice for some of the most romantic movies like Kal Ho Na Ho, Dil Chahta Hai, Salaam Namaste among many others blasted the fiery question regarding the remix and remake of some of Bollywood’s classic songs. Sitting down with Indian Express, Shaan shared his opinion about this current trend of ‘remixes’.
He said, “Think music companies are up to something and there is something more to it. They are changing the copyrights of the original songs and giving credit to those who have not composed the song. But, clearly, they can’t be so obsessed with recreations especially when people are not liking them. Why are they still doing it?"
Well, that answers some of the questions many have not dared answered. What do you think about Shaan’s opinion on the current trend of song remixes?
