Indian 2 Accident Victim’s Family To Be Given Rs 1 Crore Assistance, Announces Filmmaker Shankar

Filmmaker Shankar announced Rs 1 crore financial assistance to the families of the deceased at the mishap that rocked Tamil film industry at recently at Indian 2 sets.

After Lyca Productions, the makers of Tamil flick Indian 2 appealed to actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan to look through the recent unfortunate mishap on the sets of their film where three were killed and 9 injured, the filmmaker Shankar announced Rs 1 crore financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

In a statement, Shankar said whatever aid can be rendered to the families who lost their loved ones (Krishna, Madhu and Chandran) cannot compensate for the loss of their lives. "Nevertheless, a sum of Rs 1 crore will be given to the affected families by me which may be of small help to them," he said.

In a tweet posted after the mishap, Shankar said, “It is with utmost grief, I’m tweeting.Since the tragic incident,I’ve been in a state of shock & having sleepless nights on the loss of my AD & crew.Having missed the crane by a whisker,I feel it would’ve been better if it was on me. Heartfelt condolences & prayers to the families”

The accident took at suburban Nazrathpet when the crane employed to erect the set crashed, killing three and leaving nine injured, police said, without divulging further details. Kamal Haasan called for safety audit of Indian 2 sets to which Lyca Productions in a letter stated that “Executive Producer Sundarrajan and Deputy Executive Producer KI Manikandan (a) Vimal (personally recommended by Shankar himself) were in charge of the entire production of the film and ensured the safety measures in place.” The production house has sought explanation from both of them, the letter read in conclusion.

Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role and Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet, Siddharth in pivotal roles, is expected to hit the theatres early 2021. It is the sequel to Kamal Haasan's 1996 film Indian, a vigilante action thriller.
